Can Protein Help Control Hunger and Cravings?

Protein is made up of amino acids. They are required for the body to function properly and are the basis of body structures, such as skin and hair, and of other substances such as hormones, antibodies.

Protein takes time to digest compared to carbohydrates, thus giving a feeling of fullness for a longer duration.

Eating protein might decrease the production of "Ghrelin", the hunger hormone, and might enhance the increase of satiety hormones like "Peptide YY." 

Hormone Regulation

By feeling fuller for longer and the feeling of satiety people tend to eat fewer calories. 

Reduced Calorie Intake

Try to include protein sources like lean meats, fish, eggs, beans, lentils, tofu, nuts, and seeds in every meal.

Have a high protein snack like handful of almonds, hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese instead of deep fried or processed foods.

Hunger pangs and cravings are one of the major reason that one gain weight often. This is where protein comes to the rescue, not only helping from the cellular levels, protein also helps in managing our hunger pangs & cravings, so do not forget a serve of protein rich food with every major meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) or as a protein rich snack whenever you are hit by cravings.
